At present, the Longboat Library has 50 active volunteers during the season of November through April with 20 active volunteers in the summer from May through October. We are always looking for year round residents to join us.
Male and female volunteers come from all walks of life. Some are retired lawyers, teachers, librarians, business people etc. who have a love for reading. They work at the circulation desk assisting users, purchase, process and repair materials, manage our finances, shelve materials, publicize various events, staff special events, etc. No previous experience is necessary. We ask that our volunteers be in residence at least 5 months of the year. Complete the electronic volunteer form or the paper form at the library. Our Volunteer Coordinator will contact you to schedule 3 training sessions as well as provide a library manual which describes all the procedures in detail. After completion of the training sessions, the volunteer will choose his/her scheduled morning or afternoon session with an experienced volunteer. Through our monthly meetings on the first Monday of the month at 10:00 a.m. at the Sun Trust Bank, volunteers keep-to-date with pertinent information regarding our procedures. Volunteers enjoy gathering and getting to know each other at casual monthly luncheons organized throughout the year at restaurants in the area. |
